Experience
I have many years of experience working in the therapy environment with all ages, first as a speech language pathologist and then as a mental health counselor. Perhaps more significant than my training and experience has been my own personal journey dealing with obsessive compulsive disorder since the age of 11. The common factor through all these experiences, both personal and professional, is the need to be heard, valued, and respected. Feeling isolated and alone, no matter what the struggle may be, is a burden I understand. It has motivated me to pursue higher education with the goal of providing a client-centered approach using a variety of techniques from different modalities (such as Internal Family Systems, Polyvagal Theory, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Exposure Response Prevention, and EMDR) so that one can feel less alone, more empowered, and ultimately healthier and happier. Though I seek to provide educated, compassionate, and focused counseling, I know it is the “heroic client” who does the work. I believe in change and the hope of healing as I have experienced it myself and witnessed it in clients from all walks of life. My practice focuses on OCD and trauma, but I have experience working with a range of mental health disorders.
When I’m not hanging out with my husband and three children, I’m probably taking a nap – my favorite hobby. Though I enjoy being outside (especially in the snow – which is a problem living in MS), you would probably not find me camping, though I’m open to glamping. I like to be creative through painting and music and at times will use art within the therapy processes. I value thinking outside the box, finding the humor in life, and identifying unique solutions to problems.
